December Update - Thursday, 13th December 2012
We just wanted to let you know about our upcoming appearance on The Rough Cut Sessions, which is a new internet TV show.
We're filming a live performance and an interview for the show this Saturday 15 December at Holy Moly's, Esquires, Bedford.
It's £3 to get in and starts at 8pm.
Then, on Sunday 23 December, we've got a very special gig. As some of you may already know, Taff Thatcher, our old bass player, is leaving for Canada in the New Year. To help send
him off, we're playing one last gig with him in our old haunt, Danny's Bar, Bedford.
This is a totally free gig, and it's an early one, it starts at 5pm. Get there early to get a good spot. Expect beers, possible tears, special guests and a ruddy good time.
It's been a strange year for us, what with the line up change and everything, but with the new album on its way and exciting things planned for 2013, you're
going to be hearing a lot more from us. Thanks for your continued support.
November Update - Thursday, 29th November 2012
Thanks a lot to the folks who came to our London and Bedford shows this month, very much appreciated.
As for December, we’re recording some songs for internet TV show The Rough Cut Sessions on 15 December, which you’re welcome to come along to. It’s at Holy Moly’s in Bedford and is £3 on the door.
Then we’re playing our last gig of the year at Danny’s Bar in Bedford on 23 December. It’s going to be a great show, and it’s totally free!
The Danny’s Bar show will be our last for a while as we hole up to record our third album. We’ve started work with Nick Mailing, who produced our 2008 debut, and he’s already messing with our minds in the best way possible.
Take it from us, while this record will be a step in a new direction, it’ll still be very much a Whybirds album and we think it’s going to be brilliant.
We will keep you informed of its progress and will actually be doing something pretty exciting this way round in regards to fan involvement, but we will keep you posted in the New Year!
Holidays are comin’, holidays are comin’…
October Update - Friday, 26th October 2012
Hi Whybirds fans!
We hope you’re all well.
The main bit of news this time is still our headline show in London on 3 November. It’s at The Bull & Gate, and tickets are available here!
We haven’t played London for over a year, and it’s the first time we’ve ever played the city in our new line up, so it’d be really good to see some faces down for this show.
The next bit of news is related to the new album: it’s coming.
Thanks for your continued support, see you at The Bull & Gate!
September Update - Monday, 24th September 2012
We hope everyone’s well. Just a quick one this month.
Work is progressing on the new album, which is keeping us busy at the moment. We’re really excited about the way it’s going to turn out and we can’t wait for you to hear it.
Also, we’ve got a headline show at The Bull & Gate in London on Saturday 3 November. It’s our first gig in the city for over a year, so we need you all to come along and help pack the place out.
It’s best to buy advance tickets, and they’re available here!
Hope to see you at the show!
August Update - Thursday, 9th August 2012
Hello you lovely lot,
We hope you’re all well. Firstly, a bit of sad news, unfortunately the Rhythm Festival, which we were booked to play on 24 August,
has been cancelled this year.
It’s a shame, but there’s always next year, so hopefully we’ll be back.
However, we’re gigging this Saturday 11 August in our old stomping ground of Sandy, where we’ll be playing a memorial gig for an
old classmate Tom Ossel, who died last year. It’s at The Bell, all money goes to charity, and we’re on at 6pm.
Also, we’ve booked a headline show at The Bull & Gate in London on 3 November, which will be our first headline gig in the city
for over a year. More details to follow regarding tickets and so on, we’ll keep you posted.
Lastly… the new record is coming. We promise it’ll be worth the wait.
That’s all for now folks.
July Update - Wednesday, 18th July 2012
The big news this month is that the band spent two nights in the studio demoing all the songs for the new record. Everything's shaping up
nicely, being a three-piece now has allowed the band to move into slightly different territory, and things are really starting to gel.
This album is gonna rock!
Thanks to all the people who watched us at Rhythms of the World Festival in Hitchin, it was a great chance to show
everybody that we're back in business, and you absolutely made it one of our favourite gigs.
As for upcoming gigs, we have a charity fundraiser at The Bell in Sandy, Beds on 11 August, and then
we're playing the Rhythm Festival on 24 August, which we're really looking forward to.
That's all for now, keep on spreading the word about the 'birds and we'll see you at some more shows soon.
June Update - Thursday, 21 June 2012
Hi there folks,
Just wanted to say a big thank you to those who came down to the Esquires gig in May, it was a great turnout and we loved playing the new songs for you.
As for next month, we’ve got a gig at Buzz Festival at the Corner House in Cambridge on 1 July. We’re on at 9:30.
Then, on 15 July, we’re playing the Rhythms of the World Festival in Hitchin, on the Nettlebed Stage. Onstage at 3:30.
Other than that, we’re still writing songs for the new album, and we’ll keep you posted on that and future gigs we’ve got booked up.
Remember, everything at thewhybirds.com store is just £5, so get on over there.
Keep your peckers up,
May Update - Wednesday, 2 May 2012
We know it’s been a while, and we apologise for that, but there’s been some pretty big stuff going on behind the scenes.
First things first, we’ve got a gig at our old haunt, Bedford Esquires on Saturday 19 May. It’s going to be an extra special one, and that’s not just us saying that. We’re featuring a new line up for the first time proper, and debuting a whole new set of songs. We’d really love it if you came down. If you haven’t seen a Whybirds show for a while, this is the one to come to.
Secondly, and related to the new line up, we’d like to wish Taff the very best with his new project, The Quaint & The Curious, check it out here: www.thequaintandthecurious.net.
Thirdly, it’s our fifth anniversary this year, so we’ve decided to make everything in the store – all albums and T-shirts – just £5. So if you haven’t got your hands on any Whybirds gear, or if you’re stuck for a birthday present for that special someone, then get yourself over to The Whybirds online store!
Also, there are plans afoot for the new album, we don’t want to spoil anything yet, but we’ll keep you posted. Keep checking our gig list for updates, we’re appearing at a couple of festivals this summer and will be adding more shows as and when.
We hope you’re all alright, and we hope to see you at Esquires on 19 May!
