December Update - Monday 2nd December 2013

Hello Whybirds fans!

We hope you're all well and looking forward to a nice break over the festive season.

Reviews continue to come in for A Little Blood, and we're really pleased with the way the record has been received. Here's what various publications have said about it:

"Gratifying Anglo-American classic rock, chiseled with swagger and songwriting prowess. A Little Blood is an infectiously optimistic and confident record that rewards repeated listens."
Songwriting Magazine (5/5)

"The third album from the Bedford trio finds them consolidating the intuitive Americana-tinged rock on their previous records but with an added maturity to their writing. Blessed by three players who all contribute to the writing, the result is an album showcasing a full spectrum of tints and shades, able to shift its personality at the crash of a powerchord."
Uncut (7/10)

"Genuinely emotive and powerful music sans the pretentious bullshit. The blue collar honesty of acts like The Gaslight Anthem and even Bruce Springsteen oozes from this album in such a fashion that only the miserable and hardhearted could fail to embrace it."
Powerplay Magazine (7/10)

"The Whybirds' third LP bristles with a rough and ready sense of spirit. The band sounds leaner and meaner than ever before. Just a little blood, sirs? Frankly, this has bite enough to draw much more than that."
R2 (Rock N Reel) (4/5)

"A storming set of Americana-tinged rock."
Scottish Daily Express (4/5)

"A 14-track tour de force."
Rockshot

"A robust sound throughout gives rise to plenty of hard-rocking and enjoyable songs. This is a really good record."
Indie London

"Exciting... rousing... powerful... The Whybirds continue on A Little Blood to deliver their brand of amped up Americana."
Maverick Magazine

"A Little Blood is one of those albums which after numerous plays slowly hits you between the eyes... It's like a good bottle of burgundy, mature with a distinct palate. Good songwriting, playing, arrangements and excellent production that enhances the whole album."
Fatea Magazine

You can read some interviews the band did with Songwriting Magazine here and with Spiral Earth here.

For the month of December, we will offer a FREE COPY of our limited edition Birdseeds demo collection - which features early demos of both released and unreleased songs including Wild, Wild Wind, Foolish Heart, Isabel and Morning Light - with every purchase of A Little Blood.

September Update - Monday, 2nd September 2013

G'day Whybirds fans!

The big news this month is that our first ever single, "The Cure", is available today! Download it here

The track has been added to the playlist on BBC Three Counties this week too, so any local folk should keep an ear out for it.

The second big piece of news is that we're playing an intimate theatre show at The Sharnbrook Mill Theatre on 28 September. It should be a great night, and we're really looking forward to it. It's not often we get to play in such a venue, so it'd great to see as many people there as possible.

The gig is to help raise money to save the theatre too, so it's for a good cause. See the poster for details on how to get your tickets.

Other than that, we're just gearing up for the official release of A Little Blood on 4 November, so keep an eye out for reviews and so forth.

See you soon!

May Update - Thursday, 21st May 2013

Hi all,

We hope you're all looking forward to the Bank Holiday weekend if you’re over here in the UK and that all is well wherever you are.

Our new album, A Little Blood, is off being mastered. It’s been a labour of love and we’re very proud of the finished result. We can’t wait for you to hear it.

To those lovely and kind people who have Pledged on the project, you will be getting your downloadable version of the album very shortly and the rest of any other merchandise you ordered shortly after that.

However, the record will not be released to the general public until September, so if you haven’t pre-ordered the album on Pledge, you only have 10 days to do so, or you’ll have a bit of a wait!

So again, if you haven’t Pledged, go to www.pledgemusic.com/projects/thewhybirds now.

In other news, we’ve announced some shows! We’re headlining the Acoustic Stage at Strawberry Fair in Cambridge on 1 June and playing Chill in the Park in Kempston on 16 June.

Then, we’re going back to Spain on 27 June to play Jardin de Falerina in Vitoria-Gasteiz, supported by Rockaina.

We hope to see some of you at the shows!

April Update - Thursday, 11th April 2013

Hello there Whybirds fans,

Well, with 20 days still to go, we did it! We achieved our Pledge target. Or, more aptly, you did it. Thank you so much.

We can’t wait to get the record done and dusted and, finally, get out and play the new songs to you. Just so you know where we are, we have recorded everything now. It just needs to be mixed and mastered, and then the record will hit your inboxes.

After that, we’ll getting the CDs printed and assembling the rest of the Pledger exclusives such as the t-shirts, the demo CDs, the posters, the mugs… even the signed guitar!

If you haven’t Pledged yet, go to www.pledgemusic.com/projects/thewhybirds to do so. It doesn’t matter that we’ve reached our target, there’s still time, and if you do, 10% of money raised will go straight to Mencap.

We’ll see you soon.

March Update - Thursday, 14th March 2013

Hello you lovely lot,

It’s been two weeks since we launched our Pledge campaign to help fund our new album, and we’re already three quarters of the way there. We can’t quite express how much this means to us. We set the target of two months because we thought that’d be how long it would take for us to call and beg everyone we’ve ever met.

However, we got to the halfway point in less than a week, with Pledges coming in from the US, Spain, Sweden, Germany, France, Canada and the UK. To say we’re blown away is an understatement.

With 40-odd days to go, it’d be easy to get complacent, but the truth of the matter is, the quicker we reach our target, the quicker we can get this project into your hands.

We know that some people have been confused by the whole process. Basically, all you’re doing is pre-ordering the various items we have for sale. Once we’ve hit our target – and only when we hit our target – the orders will start being prepared.

Some people have said they don’t want the Mp3 version of the album, they just want it on CD. The digital version is just a freebie if you Pledge on any of the items above £8. It just means you’ll be able to hear the able a little quicker if you so wish, because the digital version will be sent to your inbox the minute the album is finished.

Anyway, as for the album’s progress, we are in the studio as we speak laying down the vocals. Then it just has to be mixed and mastered and we’re all done.

So, if you haven’t already, please head over to our Pledge page here and pre-order the third Whybirds album now!

February Update - Wednesday, 27th February 2013

Hello everyone!

We hope you're all well.

The big news this month is that we're making our third studio album available to pre-order today!

As some of you will be aware through our Facebook and Twitter feeds, we've already started work on it, we're about two thirds in and it's sounding great. However, this is where you come in.

It's expensive making records. Really expensive. And you lot have always been totally worth the expense and have made our lives easier by buying CDs and t-shirts etc and we can't thank you enough.

This time round though, we're asking you to take a leap of faith and do it in advance. You can pre-order the MP3 of the new album for just £8, which will be delivered to your inbox as soon as it's finished.

Or you can check out the other items we're offering, including CD copies of the album, t-shirts, mugs, posters, house concerts and even a signed Fender acoustic guitar. And with each of these items, you'll still get the MP3 copy of the album delivered to your email as soon as the record is finished.

Here's the important bit. If we don't make our target, we don't get any money. Your card won't be charged (unless you paid by PayPal, in which case your account will be refunded). We'd really prefer not to fail and we have two months starting today in order to make this project happen.

So get over to our Pledge page here and pre-order the third Whybirds album now!

January Update - Wednesday, 23th January 2013

Happy New Year everyone!

The band is heading into the studio next week to record the third album. It's been a long time coming, but we're finally doing it!

Anyway, we'll keep you posted on its progress and next month we'll have some more details on how you can get involved with the making of the album. It's going to be quite exciting we hope.
